Composting the organic fraction (FORM and EDAR sludge) mixed with structuring material (prunings, sawdust, ...) is a natural fermentation process with the presence of oxygen and high temperatures (around 60 -70 degrees) through the which destroys germs, pests and weeds and yields a final product named 'compost' which may be used as organic fertilizer for soil.

This process is performed in different composting plants located in different parts of the island of Mallorca.

Those of Marratx (Ca`n Canut) and Calvi are two composting plants organic fraction of municipal collection.

Felanitx is designed to treat sludge from wastewater treatment plant (EDAR).
